President Dick Engel’s Message

I would first like t thank all of our members for the participation we have received for our tournaments.  With an average membership base of around 81 since the beginning of the year, we are a little shy of 70% participation for our tournaments.  I think that’s awesome and just goes to show we have members who want to participate in our tournaments and support our club.

Since the beginning of the year, we have gone through team play and six regular season tournaments.  We have seen our Winter Major come and go and are now ready to participate in our Spring Major.  It’s shaping up to be a good year so far and I can only hope you guys are enjoying the tournament calendar as well as the competition. Team play was a good time as always and maybe next year we will fair a little better.  I would like to thank George Garcia for heading up our team and giving everyone an opportunity to participate in the competition.

Now that we are heading into the warmer weather, I’m sure the practice will go up and the scores will go down.  This will lead us into our summer tournaments as well as our annual Match Play Tournament, which will carry us into late summer.  This will also serve as a good tune up for those who plan to participate in our Club Championship. As most of you might have already heard, we are changing the Club Championship format once again this year.  There were several complaints from our B & C flight players about not having an opportunity to play in the match play format.  This year we’re going to have the normal first two days of stroke play as in years past and take the top eight low gross players who will play for our Gross Club Champion.  Once the gross player is removed, the field will be realigned and the top eight net players will be taken for our net match play.  The net players will also then move to the following weekend to determine who our Net Club Champion will be.  There will no longer be any individual flight winners, just a Net Club Champion and a Gross Club Champion.  This should spice things up and make players put in a little extra work.

The Points Race and the Go-Low Challenge seem to be heating up as well.  I think the Go-Low Challenge was a good addition and everyone seems to be enjoying something new.  Remember you have to participate in at least twelve holes to be eligible for in the Go-Low Challenge.  As a reminder, make sure you get your five tournaments in to be eligible for the Club Championship.

Thanks again for your support and see you at the course.

Low Tournament Score Ruling

Your Board has implemented the following handicap adjustment ruling commencing with the 2009 season for tournament play:

If any member shoots a net score of two or more strokes below Net Par (Par + Handicap) at any RVMC tournament on two or more occasions during the calendar year, the Handicap Committee will review his posted scores for a possible adjustment of his next tournament handicap.

Should you happen to be affected by this ruling, you will be notified by a member of our Handicap Committee prior to the next tournament that you will participate in.  This is a local handicap ruling and will not affect your SCGA handicap in any non-Rancho Vista Men’s Club sponsored event.

Please let us know if you have any questions
